Shell awarded RSK an integrated geotechnical site investigation and topographic survey contract in December 2013 and has since been impressed by our attitude towards improving HSSE performance:
“After mobilising in February last year, RSK deployed additional resources to provide greater on-site supervision as well as restructuring their field management structure. They also implemented safety stand-downs and a behavioural safety training programme, which was rolled out to all staff, in addition to a workshop to focus on the risks associated with work activities.
“The company CEO and regional director visited the field operations to underline the commitment to HSSE and provide visible support to their staff in the field. As a result, the firm has now submitted 1,000 Hazard Observation Cards, completed 72,000 hours of work and driven 92,000 kilometres without suffering a lost-time incident.
“In addition, a commitment to continued proactive HSSE performance is being further developed through learning-from-incidents courses, refresher sessions on the life-saving rules at each shift change as well as the introduction of a twilight HSSE/operations meeting at the end of the day to identify what went well and what can be improved upon, and to discuss any last minute changes and the associated risks.
“RSK deserve real credit for making a conscious effort to improve their safety culture and their story is a great example to the rest of the contracting companies associated with Majnoon, demonstrating it is possible to positively impact HSE performance at every level.” RSK SHEQ director, Ross Chattaway, praised the team on their successes, saying, “Congratulations for this much deserved award; 72,000 hours without a lost-time incident is an excellent achievement and one that reflects the importance of reporting hazards and positive interventions at all times in order to maintain a safe working environment. This now brings us to almost 5,000 hazard reports submitted for the group for 2014 and a continuing reduction in first-aid-requiring and lost-time injury incidents.”Fergus Collie, RSK managing director for the Middle East, adds, “This tough project in a hostile environment provided the team with enormous challenges. This award is a great achievement in itself, but it is especially rewarding as, over many months, the entire project team has shown great dedication to improving performance levels.
