Nicola Dematteis is RSK’s manager for the Shell Global Environmental Services Strategy (GESS) contract and has been overseeing RSK involvement in the safety days for many years. He also attended the event in Majnoon. He says, “We wanted to share our experience of achieving Goal Zero in Iraq and Europe, and to learn more about reaching and maintaining Goal Zero from Shell and its other contractors. So far, we have achieved 1,000 hazard observation card submissions, undertaken 72,000 hours of work and driven 92,000 km driven without a lost time-incident in Iraq, and achieved 1,703 days without a lost-time incident in Austria, Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, France, Hungary, the Netherlands, Poland, Russia, Slovakia, Turkey and the UK.”
This year, RSK participated in safety days in 14 countries (Iraq, France, Germany, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Denmark, Madeira, Poland, Russia, Turkey, the UK, the Netherlands, Belgium and Luxembourg). These RSK-organised events hosted 250 people, including RSK and Shell employees and subcontractors.
The activities across the various countries have included health, safety, security and environmental presentations, site visits, practical activities, toolbox talks, first-aid training, role play and a Goal Zero Hero 10-km run in Poland.
